The project is located at the edge of the Island of Ortygia, Syracuse, where its irregular coastline vanishes beneath an existing car park, and a series of barriers disconnect the city from the sea. The proposal introduces water between the parking structure and the ancient bastion, allowing the site to be read as a sequence of historic layers.

Embracing its infrastructural nature, the project creates a large public space, freed from the medieval fabric and connected to the sea, conceived as an active platform that houses more compact uses within its lower volume and emerges into a sequence of double-height spaces accommodating the sports facilities.
